FIXER outlasts developer 2-6 times. By retaining your fixer between cleanings and only disposing of it when it is saturated with silver, you could be saving HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS. DEVELOPER – Air and heat are the two main contaminates of developer.

AIR – When replenishing the developer, before you replace the cap, squeeze the bottle to remove as much air as possible – replace the cap and store in a cool, dark place. By eliminating the air in the bottle, the developer will NOT oxidize (turn dark) as quickly. Keep machine covered. Do NOT let the solutions “air out” – you will only cause the developer to oxidize quicker.

HEAT – If you are going through developer quicker than usual, using a thermometer, place it in the developer. The temperature of the developer should be the same as the thermostat setting, if not, call a serviceman, or simply adjust the thermostat.

Mark you transports, trays and covers and always keep the developer parts together and the fixer parts together. This eliminates two common problems: (1) cross contamination and (2) swelling of the roller covers. (When a transport assembly is exposed to the opposite solution i.e. the fixer transport is put in the developer or vice versa, there is a chemical reaction that can cause the roller covers to swell and the film to stick.)
Do NOT allow the transports to air dry. They are designed to be in solution. If it is necessary to leave them out of the processor, immerse them in a bucket (or deep sink) of clear water.
Do NOT towel dry the transports after cleaning. One piece of lint can cause damage to the transports and create false images on the films. After cleaning and rinsing thoroughly – shake the excess water from the transports, replace them in their respective tanks (sections) and fill with solutions.
Remember who you must buy the replacement transports from. By using common sense, you can actually extend the life of your transports and processor. Be a SMART consumer.
When draining the solutions – flush the drain with COLD water after each section is drained to help prevent a chemical reaction that can occur when used developer and fixer are mixed together.
Be sure to check the solution levels in automatic processors – an inadequate amount of solution can cause the processor to not function properly and the films to jam. If the level is too low, simply replenish.
